Glass

"I work primarily with kiln formed glass ( or "warm glass") which involves shaping or manipulating glass in a kiln at temperatures ranging from 660o to 850oC depending on the requirements of the piece and particular technique being used.

Wonthaggi has been my home for 20+ years - not sure if that makes me a local yet! My garden and the local environment are often influences on my work.

Several years were spent driving to Frankston and Caulfield to complete a Batchelor of Art (Craft) Honors degree at Monash University where my work is represented in the Monash Vice Chancellor Collection. I'm returning to glasswork after a few years break due to a family addition - and enjoying it immensely!

My work is produced with the following techniques:

Fusing - glass pieces are cut and assembled then heated in a kiln until the layers merge together to form a single piece of glass.

Slumping - the glass piece is heated until it softens enough to take the shape of a mould.

Traditional glass painting - glass paint is applied and then the glass is heated to fire the paint into the glass, each paint layer is added and fired sequentially."
