Coalfields Art Gallery opened
in September 2006 by director Janice Orchard .
The aim was to establish a
permanent exhibiting venue where work could be displayed and sold to an
appreciative public. There are three gallery spaces. The Main Gallery
hosts changing exhibitions by invited artists, the Members Gallery
displays work by the leading artists from the Bass Coast and South
Gippsland area, and the Access Room is a smaller space which is available
for rent by artists and is suitable for either solo or small group shows. The objectives
of the gallery are to encourage
greater creativity, to promote the diverse range of artistic talent of the
area, and to foster these unique skills inspired by our beautiful
environment for the benefit of the whole community. Regular art
classes for adults and children are held in the adjoining studio . Artists
talks for schools or groups can be arranged.
The Gallery is situated in the
pristine coastal area of the Bass Coast Shire just over an hour from the
city of Melbourne.
Excellent highways make it a
pleasant drive for an outing to the country.
The Miners Rest Bistro next door
to the gallery provides delicious meals, cold drinks and hot coffee.
The Gallery is staffed entirely
by the artists who will be pleased to talk to you about their
work.
